“Community Cohesion is paramount to me in all that I do both personally and within my business. There is nothing more important than to give back to the community in which you work!

When I worked at Kall Kwik Farnham in 2020 I was awarded the Eagle Radio Community Cohesion Award as a result of my work with the Phyllis Tuckwell hospice, raising over £5K with local accountants Branston Adams organising and taking part in a 13 mile sponsored walk from Eagle Radio in Guildford to Phyllis Tuckwell in Farnham.

I was and still am heavily involved as a Volunteer Committee Member for the Community Matters Partnership – providing support for local schools, colleges and charities.

I am a member of the committee for the Annual Twilight Runway Challenge for 2020/21/22 which raises money for over 50 local charities on an annual basis. I take part in Community Actions Days, the latest one being at Reg’s garden by Farnborough North station which saw many local businesses coming together for a day to transform this public garden for everyone to enjoy.

I work with both Camberley Town Football Club and Cove Cricket Club to attract local businesses to sponsor banners and signs around the pitches and to become part of the sporting community with various sponsorship events to provide a network of local businesses who would not otherwise have met.

Other community activities include:

  • Helping to run a couple of local networking groups as well as attending several others around the area.
  • Assisting local businesses to set up Charity days to help with their own PR and visibility and to show their way of giving back to local charities.
  • Working with the Trustees of The Topic of Cancer Immunotherapy Charity based at The Royal Surrey as a volunteer and organiser of various charity events.
  • Visiting individuals with various stages of dementia in a number of care homes and sheltered accommodation.
  • Serving for 13 years as a Governor for a Local Infant School and spending several years as Chair of the Governing Body.

I was so proud to volunteer on the Royal Surrey NHS Charity Trust stall at Weyfest 2023 with my mascot Sophie. The Royal Surrey Charity raises money so that Royal Surrey County Hospital and community hospitals – Haslemere, Cranleigh and Milford – can provide exceptional care for people in South West Surrey and beyond.

The support the charity provides means the Trust can buy state-of-the-art equipment, refurbish and redevelop wards, fund innovative research and invest in staff development. From babies and children, to young adults and older people: patients are at the heart of everything they do.

Weyfest is a premium boutique-style festival held in Tilford, Surrey in August since 2007. There’s a beautiful camp site with wonderful hot showers and great sound quality from the 4 stages, all set in 10 acres of stunning woodland of the Rural Life Living Museum museum – home to 40,000 fascinating artefacts of country life.

I cannot wait to help again next year. It’s a great charity for a great cause!
